Workshop 2: What words that are used to describe God do you hate?
Synopsis: Karen started the workshop with a preamble on why talking about God is so hard and the importance of being careful not to harm people when we do so. Words are imprecise tools to describe a concept that is probably beyond words. Regardless, people keep trying. The group discussed ground rules for making the workshop a safe place for people to feel free to say what they really think and believe. Then the group reviewed the words for God that had been collected, added any that had been missed and voted on what words they hated. The words with the most votes were those related to authority. It is not surprising that those attracted to Quaker worship are those who are low in the moral foundation of respect for authority, given the Quaker emphasis on equality.
Conclusion: Quaker worship attracts those who are attracted to an equality-based spirituality.
